The Body Obscura lands in Miami

December 5, 2018

It was about a year ago now that Amanda J Armstrong went into the studio and sparked the beginning of her landmark photo series, The Body Obscura.  No one knew then that the works she was doing would create this kind of impact.  While she sets up at Aqua in Miami, let’s take a look at the spectacular effect she’s had.

After her opening in Denver, she was chosen to present at The Clio in NYC.  Armed with a handful of prints, she had no idea she’d sell out so quickly.  Inspired by the human connection the show created, she said volumes in a short interview, done on site at The Clio.

On top of that success, she was asked to present at Aqua in Miami during Art Basel where thousands will see her works.  They’ll also be available to the world on the Alessandro Berni Gallery website among other incredible works.

Continuing her efforts, she’ll be headed back to NYC in the spring for another showing at The Clio, as well as appearing in a show curated by Denise Cummings!  There are even talks of a debut in Dubai!

She’s not resting on her laurels though; this artist is hard at work in her GRACe studio, when she’s not touring the prestigious art show scene.  She just finished an inspired shoot with a cast of diverse characters, adding to her impressive project.  The new series is called Hypnagogic State.  This is the experience of the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep: the hypnagogic state of consciousness, during the onset of sleep.

She’s planning further work as she hunts for just the right new faces to add to the project series.  Amanda takes casting seriously and has chosen her people with care.  The vibe in the studio is intense and a collective energy builds as her creation takes shape.

There’s no doubt that these images, as well as the upcoming work for this series will create the same sensational response as the first iteration.

It could be said that the evolving of Hypnagogic State is not unlike the experiences she’s had showing her work.  The explosive response must seem like a vivid fever dream, the accolades rolling in as she flies off to new cities, fueling her inspiration.
